Tra Cu district has a population of over 147,400 people, with the Khmer ethnic group comprising over 63%. The average per capita income in the 2016-2020 period reached over 45 million VND/person/year and increased to 57.6 million VND/person/year in 2022. It is one of the seven districts in the country receiving targeted support from the central budget in various social aspects. Through comprehensive solutions, in 2022, the district successfully generated employment for over 3,640 laborers, with 65% of them having received training, achieving 100% of the set plan.

Thanks to the targeted support programs and specific policies for the district, significant investments have been made to improve the transportation system, irrigation works, schools, cultural centers, and commune health stations, among others. This has gradually met the needs of the local population. All 15 communes in the district have reached the criteria for new rural areas, with 2 communes attaining advanced new rural standards.

By the end of 2023, Tra Cu district aims to focus on job creation, vocational training, livelihood diversification, and production development. The district endeavors to reduce the number of poor households by 1.7%, equivalent to nearly 750 households, according to the national multidimensional poverty standard for the 2022-2025 period compared to 2022. Additionally, the proportion of poor ethnic minority households is expected to decrease by 1.5%, equivalent to over 400 households.

To prevent relapse into poverty and ensure social security from now until 2025, the leaders of Tra Cu district suggested that the Central Government promptly extend the policy to include near-poor households and newly escaped households in the beneficiaries, helping the local authorities disburse funds for poverty reduction programs and national target programs for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. This will create necessary resources to expedite and sustainably implement poverty reduction efforts in the district.

During the meeting, Mr. Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam, Chairman of the Ethnic Council and Head of the supervisory delegation, acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of Tra Vinh province and Tra Cu district in implementing policies on poverty reduction and socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. He urged the Tra Cu District People's Committee to continue its focus, review, and clarification of data related to capital disbursement and the outcomes of ethnic programs and policies.

In response, Mr. Y Thanh Ha Nie Kdam accepted all the recommendations from Tra Cu district and expressed the expectation that the district will earnestly, comprehensively, and promptly implement ethnic policies to promote the local socio-economic development.

Before the working session, the 15th National Assembly's supervisory delegation, along with the Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee, visited Ngai Xuyen and Tan Hiep communes in Tra Cu district. During this visit, they inspected several sustainable poverty reduction models through financial support and policies aimed at promoting production development and livelihood diversification.
